The Congress of the People (COPE) calls for intervention by the local municipalities in the country, to swiftly deal with building inspections of “church buildings” in all the municipalities across the country.
Local municipalities must make sure all church buildings are built in line with the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act.
It has come to our attention that more church buildings are mushrooming everyday in the countryside, cities, townships, rural and urban areas. These buildings are causing headaches to the citizens of South Africa because they are built without being regulated and they contravene the building regulations.
On Thursday night, Thirteen people died at a Pentacostal church in KZN when a wall of a church building collapsed and buried congregants alive who gathered at the church for the Easter celebrations.
COPE hereby extend sympathy and condolences to the families, relatives and friends of those affected by this tragedy.
“MAY THE SOULS OF THE DEPARTED ONES REST IN PEACE”
COPE further wishes those who were injured in this very sad incident speedy recovery.
