General Secretary of Congress of the People (COPE) Ms Lyndall Shope-Mafole guest speaker at a Breakfast Seminar hosted by SAAPAM

This morning, General Secretary of Congress of the People (COPE) Ms Lyndall Shope-Mafole gave a speech at a Breakfast Seminar organized /hosted by the South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM), University of Johannesburg and Tshwane University of Technology.

Cde Shope-Mafole stated in her speech that the key principles of coalition include among other things, to protect the Constitution of the Republic and to act against graft/corruption.

She said the challenge that we experience in coalitions is for politicians who are prepared to stomach wrong actions as long as the politics of their stomachs are taken care of.

Such conduct undermines the 10 point principles that were agreed on when coalitions were negotiated, said Shope-Mafole.

She added that for coalitions to work, all partners must be treated as equals. And all coalition partners together with other political parties must prioritize “public good” above party politics.

SAAPAM invited Shope -Mafole to be part of their discussion about the realities of Post local government election coalitions and inter party political maneuvering in South Africa.
